I’m not gonna say it’s the only thing happening tonight, (it is New York after all), but the world premiere performance of Sufjan Stevens‘ “The BQE” at The BAM Howard Gilman Opera House is surely the thing happening tonight. Sufjan previewed a little bit of his symphony on David Garland‘s Spinning On Air a couple of days ago, and he also appeared on WNYC’s Soundcheck today to promote the show. The BQE will performed nightly from November 1-3.
Take a look at the program (pictured above) for a minute, it has the whole show clocked at one hour and 50 minutes with one intermission. Part I is The BQE and Part II is entitled Sufjan Plays The Hits. So, it sounds like the second half of the show will be Sufjan songs arranged for orchestra (similar to what he did at The Allen Room I guess). Check out the full program notes here (pdf).
