For the first time ever in North America, Serge Gainsbourg‘s classic and influential album Histoire de Melody Nelson will be reissued on Tuesday, March 24th. As is always the case, this Light In The Attic release will come packaged in a beautiful digi-pak true to the original artwork, featuring two essays (by Andy Votel and Andy Beta), a rare Serge Gainsbourg interview and illustrations by Seattle artist Drew Christie. If you haven’t heard this record before, (and I assume most folks haven’t), I highly recommend giving it a listen.
Also, in celebration of this release, Drew Christie has created 100 hand-numbered, limited edition 20 x 24 inch posters (as shown above), printed on thick matte paper stock. There are only 30 of these babies currently for sale, and I’m giving away one of them, plus a copy of the new Melody Nelson CD to one lucky winner. Just send an email to contests@bumpershine.com and tell me what was the name Serge Gainsbourg’s wife and collaborator on this record (for bonus points, you can also tell me her connection to Sex and the City). A winner will be chosen randomly on Monday, March 30, 2009.
