Spoon at the Music Hall of Williamsburg (09/13/10)

I was pretty excited to see Spoon when they opened for labelmates Arcade Fire at MSG last month, and while I enjoyed their set that night, I might describe it as “fairly businesslike”. That wasn’t really so surprising though, since: a) it wasn’t really “their” show, and b) connecting with the crowd at the cavernous MSG ain’t easy for the best of them. Having just witnessed their biggest performance ever (save for Festivals I guess), I was eager to see them again in the intimatacy of a club setting. I’m happy to report that the raw, rocking and enthusiastic Spoon that I once saw play to a sold out crowd at The Bowery Ballroom (circa Girls Can Tell) were alive and well in Williamsburg on Monday night. The set list drew generously from Transference (an album I’m enjoying more and more), but also had cuts dating all the way back to A Series of Sneaks and everything in between. When all was said and done, there was no question that Spoon brought their “A Game” to MHOW, and the hollering fans, the two encores, and the smile on Britt Daniel‘s face really told the tale of the evening. “This was fun,” quipped Daniel as he walked off stage, indeed it was Britt.
More pics and the set list from the show after the jump.
