Breaking free of the holiday drudgery are new releases from Matt & Kim, Elvis Costello, The High Dials, The 1900s along with notable compilations of Elliott Smith, Keith Richards and Weezer; and special reissues of Weezer‘s Pinkerton, Paul McCartney‘s Band on the Run and The Fall‘s The Wonderful And Frightening World Of The Fall.

 Brooklyn’s Matt & Kim have always had this sugar rush associated with their recordings, but with Sidewalks, it’s as if they’re worried about diabetes. The sweet of M&K feels buried in slick production, thanks to Ben Allen, who instead dials up the electro & hip-hopish elements at the expense of our sugar fix. “Block by Block” and “Cameras” work the magic, but there’s not much else that I sticks with me as a result. |
