The Decemberists – The King Is Dead
With a number one album under their belt (The King Is Dead sold over 90,000 copies in its initial week of release) and sold out 3 night at The Beacon Theatre in NYC, I think it’s fair to say that The Decemberists are having a pretty good year. Not content to rest on their laurels, the band has just announced a second leg of U.S. tour dates which will kick off on April 16 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and cover the Midwest and South before reaching Atlanta, Georgia on May 2. The 14-date run will also include the band’s first-ever appearance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on May 1 and a return visit to the annual Sasquatch! Music Festival. Tickets for the new tour dates go on sale to the general public beginning Feb 11, 2011.
In other Decemberists news:
Rolling Stone recently premiered “The Great Outdoors,” an original song written by Yo Gabba Gabba that was performed by The Decemberists and will appear in the February 8 episode of the popular Nick Jr. children’s television show. The band will also be featured over the coming weeks on Sirius’ XMU channel (February 9), KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” (February 11), and World CafĂ© (February 14).
