Donald Glover and A Fan at The PureVolume House (03/17/11)

While he was in Austin, Donald Glover, (aka Childish Gambino, aka Troy Barnes of NBC’s Community and founding member of DERRICK Comedy), kept himself pretty busy. He hosted the mtvU Woodie Awards on Wednesday night, played an official SXSW show as his rap alter-ego Childish Gambino, did some stand-up at Esther’s Follies and probably popped in a couple of other places I didn’t hear about. His SXSW stand-up gigs were no doubt in preparation for his new Comedy Central Special entitled WEIRDO, which is taping on Mar 24, 2011 in NYC at the Union Square Theatre (Buy Tickets). According to Donald, the WEIRDO material is completely different (well, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some slight overlap) from the material that he will be performing during the stand-up part of the IAMDONALD tour. A quick Google search show that he has done the WEIRDO show before at the UCB Theatre in New York. Here’s a little bit more info about the show:

The hour will go through music, the N-word, relationships, and of course, poop. The hour is a lot about discovering what being a grown up is: embarrassment, naivety, and always feeling a little out of place.
