Dan Mangan at CMJ 2010

As I mentioned a little while ago, Dan Mangan is in town tonight (Tuesday, July 26) to play an album pre-release gig at the Mercury Lounge with Dear Lions (some tickets for the late show should be available at the door). Here’s a little bit more info on the new album, Oh Fortune, from Dan himself:
The new album is called Oh Fortune. It includes eleven songs. I thought of the title after reading about Gertrude Ederle, a female swimmer who swam the English Channel in the 1920s and crushed the previous world record (held, of course, by a man). She was a massive celebrity for but a moment, and they threw a momentous ticker-tape parade on her return to New York. Neat, hey?
The album will be released on September 27th on a fine label called Arts & Crafts and I must admit, I’m anxious to hear what you think of it. We like it, but, admittedly, it’s a biased opinion. A-hem.
I want you to know things about us. When I refer to us, I mean myself and the band. It feels more like a team effort than ever before. I want you to know that we’re about to play a lot of shows. Aside from some more festivals and odd gigs here and there for the rest of the summer, we’re planning on heading across Canada again later this year.
Having spent so much time abroad, it really is a special thing to tour here at home. It’s not lost on us the amount of support and wonderful encouragement we’ve gotten from Canada. In fact, if your town isn’t on the list below, know that we’re going to be adding a number of other dates, but they’re still just stewing and not ready to properly announce just yet. So please do stay tuned.
It’s been a little while since we toured Canada. So. It’s time. Holy crap, it’s going to be awesome. We’re playing the Orpheum! Do you have any idea how cool that is?
And in the meantime, we hope to see you at one of the many festivals and shows we have planned this summer. Our travels will take us to New York, Colorado, Germany, the UK, Netherlands…and well…let’s just say we’re running out of pages in our passports. [DanManganMusic.com]
